The Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM) demonstrates its activities in the development, validation and testing of fibre optic sensors, fibre optic components and systems. Details of the investigation of plastic optical fibers (POF) are:
Estimation of optical and mechanical characteristics, resistance to climatic and chemical stress, ageing (durability)
Assessment of reliability and safe operation under extreme conditions of use by means of specially developed unique testing techniques (e.g. bending, torsion, tension and crush under extreme climatic conditions from -40°C to +90°C)
Development of testing methods for qualifying plastic optical fibers for special applications (e.g. in automotive areas)
