March, 25th 2010: POF Symposium and Exhibition at OFC 2010, San Diego

Plastic Optical Fiber (POF) Market and Technology Opportunities Presentations and Applications Center

The Plastic Optical Fiber Trade Organization (POFTO), as part of its “POF Day Program,” is organizing a POF Symposium that is focused on “POF for Home Networks” but also covers recent developments in technology, applications, and new markets such as AOC for HDMI, connectorless technology, and chip solutions for POF data communications. A special attraction is a review of the EEC POF-PLUS funded program, which is leading the way in the development of POF home networks. Speakers from around the world will review developments in their countries of Gigabit POF home networks.

POFTO is also organizing a POF Application Center where companies demonstrate their products during the show and attendees can bring their problems and receive design advice on POF solutions from experts.

Worlds first view into a POF connector showing freezing water

This video is (to our knowledge)  the world´s first look into a POF connector showing intruded water freezing during a climatic test.
During the cycles from -40°C to +85°C with RH 95%  water is intruding into the connector. You can see the water intrusion and freezing resulting in high attenuation.
The video is showing a timelapse of one 8 hour cycle.
